Merryn B. DeBenedetti

Merryn is naturally curious and enjoys solving complicated environmental legal problems for clients. She values collaborating with her colleagues and clients because her two decades of experience have taught her that teamwork maximizes the chances for success for clients facing the most difficult legal problems. Her practice is centered on providing diligent, comprehensive, and practical litigation services to clients from the inception of a case through trial. While she has extensive environmental litigation experience, she also has represented numerous clients in state and federal courts through trial in other civil litigation contexts, including employment, real estate, and commercial litigation.

Merryn enjoys the challenges inherent in the multi-layered aspects of an environmental case. She possesses a well-rounded knowledge of the substantive and procedural aspects of environmental and commercial litigation cases, which range from underlying scientific concepts that drive decisions about handling contaminated property through procedure-based strategies to successfully litigate a case to resolution. Her broad litigation and trial experience has resulted in Merryn having excellent tactical and strategic instincts, thinking many steps ahead of opposing counsel to the advantage of clients. Merryn has significant experience with compliance and litigation involving contaminated site cases under state and federal law, as well as experience in dangerous waste handling and environmental due diligence in commercial real estate.

Merryn also possesses sharply honed skills in legal writing and advocacy, having taught at Seattle University School of Law as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Lawyering Skills for two years.

When she is not practicing law, Merryn is an enthusiastic world traveler and competes in the equestrian sport of dressage with her Andalusian gelding.
