Christopher Rycewicz

Chris’s passion for the law has grown from his interest in understanding, managing, and sustainably using natural resources. As a lifelong outdoorsman, Chris studied natural sciences in college, and his growing awareness of the impact the law can have on how and why natural resources are used inspired him to pursue a law degree. Chris’s curiosity and passion for understanding the natural world focused his career on environmental law. His scientific background, pragmatic approach to legal issues, and determined advocacy have made him a leader in the environmental law community for the past three decades.

In addition to his environmental focus, Chris routinely represents clients in other types of civil litigation, ranging from complex toxic torts to contractual business disputes. Chris prides himself on finding creative solutions to complex problems. He also devotes a significant portion of his practice to helping policyholders in the Pacific Northwest recover insurance assets, most frequently insurance benefits related to historic environmental liabilities. Chris is one of a handful of Pacific Northwest lawyers who has successfully first chaired a trial involving a high stakes environmental liability coverage dispute. Given his breadth of experience, Chris has been instrumental in developing Oregon insurance coverage law, particularly as it applies to longtail environmental liabilities.

When not working, Chris continues to explore the outdoors on foot, by bicycle, and through scouting out the best fly-fishing hole.

Admitted to practice in Oregon.
